Students with a B.S. or B.A. degree not in chemistry from another institution may earn a B.S. or B.A. degree in chemistry based on Oregon State University's academic regulations.
Concurrent and subsequent baccalaureate degrees
Subsequent baccalaureate degree
A student who has received a previous baccalaureate degree from either OSU or another accredited university may be granted a subsequent baccalaureate degree. Key requirements, outlined in the OSU catalogue under Academic Regulation 26, are as follows:
- Complete, for a B.A. degree, the requirements for foreign language proficiency (AR25d)
- Achieve a minimum of a 2.00 OSU cumulative grade point average
- Complete requirements of the major college and receive the Dean's certification; and
- Meet the requirements for a concurrent degree as specified in AR26a, if a previous baccalaureate degree has been received from OSU. The additional credits may be taken at any time prior to or subsequent to the granting of a previous OSU baccalaureate degree.
Students with a baccalaureate degree from another institution must meet the academic residence requirement in AR25f. A student seeking a baccalaureate degree under the provisions of either AR26a or AR26b also must satisfy the appropriate residence requirements as defined in AR25f.
Interpretation
For a second degree in chemistry, the student must fulfill all departmental requirements based on appropriate transfer courses or courses taken at OSU. For a B.S. degree (includes a required option) or the B.A. degree, the student must fulfill all the requirements (Course Requirements for Chemistry Degrees and Specific Options — listed by category) except for the courses listed as University Baccalaureate Core. (A biological science course must be taken as a College of Science requirement and the foreign language proficiency must be completed for the B.A. degree.) The required courses include all specified chemistry, mathematics and physics courses as well as any other courses specified under the option or departmental requirements.
