Members of the Stylianou Lab can test the photocatalytic activity of porous materials using an LED reactor. These porous metal-organic frameworks have exciting potential for energy, environmental and sensing applications.

Whether we are engaged in basic or applied research, the Department of Chemistry is focused on solving critical problems. Our 20 tenure track faculty mentor OSU students and make it possible for them to become the researchers of tomorrow. And they regularly receive national and international recognition for their discoveries in research and success in industry.

Research areas in chemistry

With applications in sustainability, health and industry, our department has made lasting scientific progress that has improved lives around the world. The interdisciplinary research of our department is reflected in our faculty's extensive collaborations with departments within the Colleges of Science, Agriculture and Engineering, as well as local companies such as Hewlett-Packard and Intel.

Undergraduate research

Research in chemistry provides students a strong foundation for life after graduation while gaining expertise in cutting-edge research practices. Chemistry majors will have opportunities to conduct paid research in the summer and even internationally.
